In today’s hyper-competitive marketplace where the internet has matured, the digital noise is deafening, and the average attention span of American adults is now down to five seconds, it can feel exhausting trying to compete in The War for Attention in arenas where buyers expectations of quality, accuracy, agility, and speed have converged to become normalized.

Don’t Risk Your Credibility

But that doesn’t mean a leader should risk their credibility and reputation of the company mimicking unorthodox breakout strategies that are lauded by conference speakers or posted on a social media platform because they’re perfectly executed under temporary ideal conditions that are unlikely to be replicated. Sure, it’s exciting to hear or watch, but do you really want to do that?

Common Sense or Desperation?

This is a simple appeal for using common sense over desperation management. Be mindful and cautious of what you choose to model or applaud. Somebody else’s green light (go) may become a red light (no go) by the time you plan and execute similar business moves. Caution is not a crime. Evaluate 5-T congruence (Timing, Talent, Team, Territory, Trajectory.) You didn’t get this far playing “Follow the Leader.
